Let us assume that the number is X and so as per the given data

$\large \sf \bold{ \frac{x}{ - 9} } = - 8 \\ \\ \large \sf{}rearranging \: the \: terms \: \\ \\ \large \sf{}x = ( - 8)( - 9) \\ \\ \large \sf{}x = 72$

Note:-

• And the -9 that was on the denominator went to multiplication because when some number is in divition ,when crossing the equal to( = ) it goes to multiplication.

• (-8)(-9) becomes 72 because (negative)(negative) becomes positive.
