Therefore time taken to reduce the reactant from 5g to 3g is 78.429 sec .

Given : the rate constant of first order reaction is 15 * 10^-3 per sec.

To find : The time taken to reduce 5g of the reactant to 3g.

solution : using formula of first order reaction,

t = 2.303/k log[a/(a - x)]

where k is rate constant,

a is initial amount of substance

(a - x) final amount of substance.

here, k = 15 × 10¯³ /sec , a = 5g and (a - x) = 3g

so, t = 2.303/(15 × 10¯³) log[5/3]

= (2303/15) log(5/3)

= 78.429 sec

Therefore time taken to reduce the reactant from 5g to 3g is 78.429 sec.
