Let the CP of the article is Rs. 6x

Let the SP of an article is Rs.5x

LOSS => CP - SP => Rs. 6x - Rs. 5x => Rs.X

LOSS % => loss/CP×100 => x/6x × 100 => 50/3%

=> 16 whole 2/3 %

If the ratio of the cost price of an article to its selling price is 6:5 then Loss percentage is about 16.67 %

Given:

ratio of the cost price of an article to its selling price is 6:5

To Find:

Loss percentage

Solution:

Step 1:

Assume that:

Cost Price = 6x

Selling Price = 5x

Step 2:

As cost price is more than selling price hence there would be loss.

Subtract Selling price from cost price to get loss

Loss = Cost Price - Selling Price

Step 3:

Substitute the values of cost price and Selling price

Loss = 6x - 5x = x

Step 4:

Find the loss % on cost price using Formula

Loss % = ( Loss / Cost Price) x 100

Step 5:

Substitute the values and calculate

Loss % = (x/6x) * 100  ≈ 16.67 %

If the ratio of the cost price of an article to its selling price is 6:5 then Loss percentage is about 16.67 %
