if the ratio of the number of men to the number of women on a committee of 20 members is 3 to 2 how many members of the committee are women?

Total members = 20 members

So,
Let the number of men in the committee be 3x
So,
As per the given ratio
The number of women in the committee will be equal to 2x

Now ,
The total members will be equal to the sum of the male members and the female members in the committee.
So,

According to question :-

3x + 2x = 20
Or,
5x = 20
Or,
x = 20 / 5 = 4

Now,
Women were equal to 2x in the committee.
Putting down the values of x in this :-
So,

Number of women will be
2x = 2*4 = 8

So,
There were 8 women in the committee.
