therefore;

x = 81 - y ........(1)

substitute x = 81 - y in x:y = 13:14 we get

(81 - y):y = 13:14

81 - y = (13/14) ×y

81 × 14 = 13y + 14y

81 × 14 = 27y

Hence;

y = 81×14 /27

y = 42 ...........(2)

Now , substitute y = 42 in (1) equation we get

x = 81 - 42

hence; x = 39

therefore;
