assuming all the mediums are placed next to each other on a plane.

Refractive index of the second medium with respect to first medium.

2n1 = n2/n1 -- 1

Refractive index of third medium with second medium.

3n2 = n3/n2 --2

We find out the refractive index of the 3rd medium

Multiply 1 and 2

2n1 x 3n2 = n2/n1 x n3/n2 = n3/n1
