Given : If the wire is doubled on itself.

To find : new resistance of the wire.

solution : Let R is initial resistance of wire, L is length, A is cross sectional area and ρ is specific resistance of wire.

relation between R , L and A is given by, R = ρ L/A

as The wire is doubled on itself, length of wire would be L/2, cross sectional area would be 2A.

then, R' = ρ L'/A' = ρ (L/2)/(2A) = 1/4 × ρ L/A

⇒R' = R/4

Therefore new resistance of wire is reduced to R/4.
