by comparing the equation ax^2 + bx + c

a = 2
b = 6
c = k

as the roots are real and equal
hence

b^2 = 4ac

6^2 = 4 ×2 × k

36 = 8k

therefore k is equal to 9/2

Answer: 9/2

Step-by-step explanation:

For real roots Descrimnant (D) must be greater then 0

D = √( 36- 8k)

√ ( 36-8k ) >0

Squaring both sides

36 > 8k

k < 36/8

k < or equal to9/2
