Comparing equation with 2x^2 + 6x + k = 0

a = 2 , b = 6 , c = k

b^2 - 4ac = 0 - given roots are real and equal.

Substituting values in the discriminant ;

(6)^2 - 4(2)(k) = 0

36 - 8k = 0

- 8k = - 36

8k = 36

k = 36/8

:. k = 9/2
