k=8alpha

k=8*1/2 or k=8*-1/2

k=4 or k= -4

As we know

 d = {b}^{2}  - 4ac

substitute values of a,b,c

 {k}^{2}  - 4 \times 4 \times 1

given equation have real and equal roots,for D=0

 {k}^{2}  - 16 = 0 \\

k =  \sqrt{16}

k = 4

Therefore value of k is 4
