Let the number be 'x'

A.T.Q.

 \frac{1 + x}{4 + x } =  \frac{3}{4}

4(1 + x) = 3(4 + x)

4 + 4x = 12 + 3x

4x - 3x = 12 - 4

x = 8

Hope it helps................
