If the segment with the end points (3, 4) and (14, –3) meets the x–axis at P, in
what ratio does P divide the segment? Also, find the coordinates of P.

let the ratio be m:n

as, P lies on X-axis , so co-ordinate of P =0

{m×(-3)+n×4}/(m+n) = 0

or, -3m+4n=0

or, 3m=4n

or, m/n= 4/3

or, m:n= 4:3

the coordinates of P is

= ( (4*14+3*3)/(4+3) , 0)=(65/7,0)
