Percentage gain to sell the cricket ball is 140 %.

We have to find the gain percent, If the selling price of five cricket balls is same as the cost price of 12 cricket balls.

let cost price of one cricket ball is CP and selling price of it is SP.

A/c to question,

selling price of 5 cricket balls = cost price of 12 cricket balls

⇒5SP = 12 CP

⇒SP/CP = 12/5

it means, If cost price of a ball is 5, selling price of it will be 12.

∴ percentage gain = (selling price - cost price)/cost price × 100

= (12 - 5)/5 × 100

= 7/5 × 100

= 140 %

Therefore the percentage gain is 140%.

Given:

The selling price of five cricket balls is the same as the cost price of 12 cricket balls.

To find:

The gain percent.

Solution:

The gain percent is 140%.

To answer this question, we will follow the following steps:

As given in the question, we have,

The selling price of 5 cricket balls = cost price of 12 cricket balls

Let the cost price of one cricket ball be x units.

So,

The selling price of 5 cricket balls = 12x units

and

The cost price of 5 cricket balls = 5x units

Gain

= Selling Price - Cost Price

= (12x - 5x) units

= 7x units

So,

gain percent

= \frac{gain}{cost \: price} \times 100

 = \frac{7x}{5x} \times 100

 = 140\%

Hence, the gain percent is 140%.
