New area=25a^2

Change in area=9a^2

Change in percentage=9a^2/16a^2*100=56.25

Let side be x
If it is increased by 25%----->
25x/100+x=x/4 +x=5x/4
Older area =x^2
New area=25x^2/16
% increased=x× 100/(5x/4)
=80%
