If the side of a square is increased by 50% find the percentage increase in its area

Let the side of original square be x.

Area = side^2 = x^2

New side = x+50/100*x = 3/2x

New Area = (3/2x)^2 = 9/4x^2

Increment in area % = 9/4x^2/x^2 * 100 = 225%
