Let the side of square be x cm.

Then, new side of square= x+8 cm.

Area of square= x²

Area of new square= x²+120

We know that, are of a square= side²

So, (x+8)²= x²+ 120

x²+64+16x= x²+120

16x+64=120

16x= 120-64

16x= 56

x= 56/16

x= 3.5 cm

Therefore, the side of the square is 3.5 cm.

Hope it helps you.
