Let us assume the initial side of the square be x

Then, initial perimeter = 4 × side

                                     = 4x

Now, it is given that the side of the square is doubled

So, the new side will be 2x

New perimeter = 4 × side

                         = 4 ( 2x  )

                         = 8x

                        = 2 ( initial perimeter )

Therefore, on doubling the side the perimeter also gets doubled

Hence, the statement "if the side of the square is doubled the perimeter of the square is halved" is false
