Let the side of the square be x unit.
so, the area = x² unit²
the side is increased by 21%
so, the side is , x+ x×21/100 unit
= 121x/100 unit
now, the area =(121x/100)² unit²
so, its area is increased by (121x/100)²-x²/x² ×100 %
= (14641x²-10000x²)/(10000× x² ) × 100%
= 4641x²/ 10000x² × 100%
= 4641/100 %
=46.41 %
