Answer:

60 km/hr

Step-by-step explanation:

Given,

If the speed of a car is increased by 12 km/h, it takes 40 minutes less to cover a  distance of 240 km.

let x be original speed

if it increased  by 12 then speed will be (x+12) km/hr

distance=240

Time difference =40/60

240/x-240/(x+12)=40/60

240(x+12)-240x=2/3(x^2+12)

x^2+12-4320

X^2+72x-60x-4320=0

x(x+72)-60(x+72)=0

(x-60)(x+72)=0

x=60
