Answer:

60 km/hr

Step-by-step explanation:

Let original speed=x km/hr

f the speed of a car is increased by 12 km/hr it takes 40 minutes less to cover distance of 240 km

speed increased by (x+12) km/hr

distance d=240

t1 and t1 time taken by car at x and (x+12) speed

t1-t2=40min

Time=distance/speed

240/x-240/(x+12)=40/60

240(x+12)-240x/x(x+12)=2/3

1440/x^2+12x=1/3

x^2+12x-4320=0

x^2+72x-60x-4320=0

x(x+72)-60(x+72)=0

(x+72)(x-60)

x=60,-72

eliminate negative

x=60
