One can sense colors only in bright light because of the rod cells of our retina. These rod cells are responsible for the replication of images we see through our eyes.

These cells have the capacity to reciprocate the images that we see by passing the intense light ray towards it but the rod cell will fail if the condition and the surroundings fail to produce enough light as these cells can reciprocate the images even in dim light but not in dark situation.
