Regroup the equation:

(3x + 4y + 5) + k(x + 2y - 3) = 0

3x + 4y + 5 + kx + 2ky - 3k = 0

(3 + k)x + (4 + 2k)y + (5 -3k) = 0

If the equation is parallel to the x-axis:

the coefficient of x must be equal to 0

3 + k = 0

k = -3

Answer: k = -3
