Let the numbers be x and y.
So x+y=3 ⇒y=3-x
Also x²+y²=12 ⇒x²+(3-x)²=12 ⇒2x²-6x+9=12 ⇒2x²-6x-3=0 ⇒x=(6+√60)/4 or (6-√60)/4
Thus y=(6-√60)/4 or (6+√60)/4
So x+y=3 ⇒y=3-x
Also x²+y²=12 ⇒x²+(3-x)²=12 ⇒2x²-6x+9=12 ⇒2x²-6x-3=0 ⇒x=(6+√60)/4 or (6-√60)/4
Thus y=(6-√60)/4 or (6+√60)/4
