The value of x = 15

Given:

Sum of 5, 8, 12 and 15 is equal to the sum of 3, 4, x and x+3

To find:

The value of x

Solution:

Given that sum of 5, 8, 12 and 15 = the sum of 3, 4, x and x+3

Now find sum of 5, 8, 12 and 15 and sum of 3, 4, x and x+3 by adding

Sum of  5, 8, 12 and 15 = 5 +8 +12 +15 = 40

Sum of 3, 4, x and x+3 = 3 +4 +x + x+3 = 10 + 2x

From given data 10 + 2x = 40

⇒ 2x = 30

⇒ x = 15

⇒ The value of x = 15
