let fathers age be x and sons age y

then x+y=64_(1)

given 2(x-y)=64

=2x-2y=64.....(2)

x + y =64.....(1)

=(1)×2= 2x+2y=128...(3)

2x- 2y =64....(2)

(3)+(2)= 4x= 192

x=192/4

x=48

substitute x in (1)

48+y=64

y=64-48

y=16

ie. father is 42 and son is 16 years old.

hope this helps you mate.
