Sum of first 4 terms of an AP = 40

Solution :

Let the first 4 terms be ;

a - 3d , a - d , a + d , a + 3d

According to the question ,,,

a - 3d + a - d + a + d + a + 3d = 40

Common difference d gets cancelled and we get ,,,

4a = 40

a = 10

Therefore ,,,, the first term ( a ) is 10
