Let the common multiple be x

So, let the five consecutive odd numbers be x, x + 2, x + 4, x + 6 and x + 8

Given : Their sum is 295

According to the given condition

x + x + 2 + x + 4 + x + 6 + x + 8 = 295

☛ 5x + 20 = 295

☛ 5x = 295 - 20

☛ 5x = 275

Dividing both the sides by 5, we get :

∴ x = 55

∴ The smallest number ☛ x

\underline{\underline{\bold{Question:}}}

If the sum of five consecutive odd number is 295 .What is the smallest number ?

\tt{Solution:}

\boxed{\bold{\textsf{The difference between of two consecutive odd no. will be always 2.}}}

Let the smallest odd no. be x.

So

  • 2nd odd no. = (x+2).
  • 3rd odd no. = (x+2+2) = (x+4).
  • 4th  odd no. = (x+4+2) = (x+6).
  • 5th odd no. = (x+6+2) = (x+8).

According to question ,

The sum of five consecutive odd number is 295.

\implies{\bold{x+(x+2)+(x+4)+(x+6)+(x+8)=295}}\\\\\\\implies{\bold{5x+20=295}}\\\\\\\implies{\bold{5x=295-20}}\\\\\\\implies{\bold{5x=275}}\\\\\\\implies{\bold{x=\dfrac{275}{5}}}\\\\\\\implies{\bold{x=55.}}\\\\\\\boxed{\boxed{\bold{The\:Smallest\:odd\:no.=x=55.}}}
