let the 1st no be x

2nd no = x+2

3rd no = x+4

4th no = x+ 6

now according to the question ,

x + x+2 + x+4 +x+6 = 228

4x + 12= 228

4x = 228- 12

4x = 216

x= 216/4

x= 54

hence the smallest even no is 54
