if the sum of the squares of zeroes of polynomial x raise to the power 2-8x+k is 40. Find the value of k.

Let a and b are the zeroes of polynomial p (x)= x^2-8x+1. Sum of zeroes is given by :

: $a+b=\dfrac{-(8)}{1}=8 .....(1):$

ab=k

It is given that, a^2+b^2=40

It can be simplified as :

(a+b)^2-ab=40

From (1) we have,

: $8^2-2k=40\\\\2k=64-40\\\\k=12$

So, the value of k is 12.
