The value of k is 4 ......

Given :

The sum of the given polynomial is ( - 1 )

p(x) = k {x}^{2}  + 4x - 35

Solution :

let \:  \: the \:  \: zeroes \:  \: of \:  \: the \:  \: polynomial  \\ \: p(x) \: be \: \:  \alpha  \:  \:  and \:  \:  \beta

According to the question ,,,,

 \alpha  +  \beta  =  - 1 \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  -  -  - (1) \\  \\ but \: \:  we \:  \: know \:  \: that  \\ \:  \:  \alpha  +  \beta  =  \frac{ - b}{a} \\   \\from \: eq(1)  we \: get \:  \\  \\  - 1=  -  \frac{b}{a}  \\  \\  - 1 =  -  \frac{4}{k}  \\    \\  - 1k =  - 4 \:   \:  \:  \:  \: \:  \:  \:  \: ( \: by  \: \: cross \:  \: multiplying) \\  \\ k =  \frac{ - 4}{ - 1}  \\  \\ k = 4
