Question :- If the sum of three consecutive natural numbers is 42, which is the largest number of them?*

1) 14

2) 15

3) 13

4) 16

Solution :-

Let us assume that, three consecutive natural numbers are ,

  • first number = x
  • second number = (x + 1)
  • third number = (x + 1) + 1 = (x + 2)

given that, sum of all three is 42 .

so,

→ x + (x + 1) + (x + 2) = 42

→ x + x + x + 1 + 2 = 42

→ 3x + 3 = 45

→ 3x = 42 - 3

→ 3x = 39

dividing both sides by 3, we get,

→ x = 13 .

therefore,

→ Largest number = Third number = (x + 2) = 13 + 2 = 15 (Option 2) (Ans.)

Hence, Largest natural number is 15.
