Any even number can be expressed in the form 2x , the even number consecutive with 2x can be 2x - 2 or 2x + 2 as they have to be even as well .

Therefore

2x + 2x - 2 = 54

4x = 56

x = 14

Therefore the numbers are 28 and 26 .

Also :

2x + 2x +2 = 54

4x = 52

x = 13

Which would also give us 26 and 28 .

Therefore the answer is 26 and 28
