let 2nd no.=x+1

x+x+1 =42

2x+1 =42

2x. =42-1

2x. =41

x. =41÷2

x. =20.5

1st no. =20.5

sum of two consecutive no.s = 42

let a no. be x (say)

consecutive even no. = x+2

x + (x+2) = 42

2x+ 2 = 42

2x = 42 -2

2x = 40

x = 40/2

x = 20

x+2 = 20 +2

= 22

Hence, two consecutive no.s are 20 and 22

VERIFY :

20+22= 42
