Given

The sum of two consecutive numbers is 21 .

To Find

The lesser number

\sf\huge\bold{\underline{\underline{{Solution}}}}

Option (B) 10

Let us assume that the first consecutive number be 'x'

second consecutive number be 'x+1'

According to the question=>

The sum of two consecutive numbers is 21

Then, x+(x+1)=21

=>x+x+1=21

=>2x+1=21

=>2x=21-1

=>2x=20

=>x=20÷2

=>x=10

X is 10 & x+1=10+1=11

Compare both numbers :- 10 & 11

We observe that 10 is the lesser number or 11 is the greater number.

Check:-

=>x+(x+1)=21

=>10+11=21

Extra information=>

Consecutive numbers are those number which comes after one another or in simple words we can say they come in a sequential form.

e.g, 1+2+3+4+5 are consecutive numbers.

if x is 1 , then x+1 is 2 ; x+2 is 3 ;x+3 is 4 and x+4 is 5 and so on.
