if the sum of two fractions is 5/6 and one of them is 1/2 then the other fraction is​

Given-

The sum of two fractions is $\frac{5}{6}$

One of the fraction is $\frac{1}{2}$

To find-

The second fraction

Solution-

Fraction means ration contain denominator and numerator.

Let, The second fraction is x

The sum of two fractions is $\frac{5}{6}$

We can write it as,

$\frac{1}{2}+x= \frac{5}{6}$

$x= \frac{5}{6}-\frac{1}{2}$

For subtraction of fraction number both the fraction of denominator should be same.

For that we have to multiply $\frac{1}{2}$ by 3

It becomes $\frac{3}{6}$

Now substract

$x= \frac{5}{6}-\frac{3}{6}$

$x= \frac{5-3}{6} \\x= \frac{2}{6}$

As, 6 is divisible by 2

Divide 6 by 2 we get

$x= \frac{1}{3}$

∴  The second fraction is $\frac{1}{3}$
