Let a and b are two numbers -

Then,

a + b = 17 ------(i)

a - b = 3 --------(ii)

Now equation (i) + (ii)

a + b = 17 ------(i)

a - b = 3 --------(ii)

___________________

2a = 20

a = 20/2

\boxed{a = 10 }

\rule{200}{1}

Now put the value of a into equation (i) -

a + b = 17

10 + b = 17

b = 17 - 10

\boxed{b<strong> </strong><strong>=</strong><strong> </strong><strong>7</strong><strong> </strong>}

Hence ,

  • The numbers are 10 and 7.
