If the sum of two numbers is 16 and their difference is 4, then find the numbers.​

x+y=16……1

x-y=4……2

This forms an equation

since the signs of the 2 equations are different (negative and positive), we add the two equations

(x+x) +(y-y) =(16+4)

2x+0=20

2x=20

x=10

I take equ 1

x+y=16

10+y=16

y=16–10

y=6

So the two numbers are 10 and 6
