So, from this we get a = 14, put this value in any equation i.e.

a + b = 20 (Put the value of a in this equation)

b = 20-14

b = 6

therefore,

14+ b = 20

So, the numbers are 14 and 6.

If we consider the case i.e. b - a = 8 then the solution will be same and the a number will become 6 and b number will become 14.
