Explanation:

Let the two numbers be x and y respectively.

Now, According to question

x + y = 42……eq1

x*y = 437…..eq2

Solve eq1

x = 42-y

Put the value of x in eq2

42-y * y = 437

42y - y^2 = 437

y^2 - 42y + 437 = 0

y^2 - 23y - 19y + 437 = 0

(y-23)(y-19) = 0

y = 23 or 19

Put the value of y in eq1

x + 23 = 42

x = 19.

If we take y = 19 then x become 23.

Now we have to find absolute difference of x and y,

Difference = x - y

= 23–19
