If the sum of zeroes of a quadratic polynomial () =ax 2

+ bx+c is -3 and product

is 2, then prove that a + b = 5

Answer:

Sum of zeroes, p+q = -3 = -b/a

Product of zeroes, pq= 2 = c/a

Then the required polynomial is x2-(p+q)x+pq = x2+3x+2. Comparing with ax2+bx+c we get a= 1, b= 3, c= 2.

Hence, a+b = 4 and b+c = 5
