In the current system carbon is exactly 12 and oxygen is approximately 16. Thus carbon has 3/4 the mass of oxygen. So, if oxygen is assigned a value of 200, carbon would be 3/4 of 200 or 150.

Explanation:

HEY BUDDY,

One important note guys,this method is not only confined to this model but it is the most famous method in solving stoichiometric problems. so guys understand it.

LET'S MOVE ON!

  • see,normally 16 amu is the atomic weight of Oxygen(O2), now

atomic weight of oxygen is 100 as per question so,

atomic weight(O2) = 100 so

16 amu = 100(as atomic weight of oxygen is 16 ) {mentioned above)}

1 amu = 100/16..............1

now they are asking the mass of carbon atom so

atomic weight of C is 12amu

now, 12 amu can be written as 100/16 ×12 [bcz 1amu is 100/16(from1) and 12 amu is equal to 100/16× 12]

so., 12 amu = 100/16×12 and the new atomic weight of carbon is 75 .

guys I have explained in a detailed way so that u buddy's can understand it very clearly. really this is in fact a 2 step sum, so try to understand bcz it will also come in stoichiometric based problems, very important. so for further understanding solve these sums as per the information given in question

1) atomic weight of Nitrogen, 2) chlorine and an element 3) unknown whose atomic weight is Z.plz try to solve this ,I will upload the answer below.

HOPE U UNDERSTAND.
