if the thin skin inside the egg shell is the cell membrane then what the egg shell actually is

egg shell is a calcium. it okay made for protection purpose of egg yolks and egg white. in fact it contained 95 percent of calcium carbonate. but the membrane is too thin and it is not able to protect egg so egg shell is useful here.
