Answer:

The depth, d, of the sea measured is 2250m.

Explanation:

Given,

The time taken by the reflected sound to reach the SONAR = 3s

The velocity of the sound in water = 1500m/s

The depth of the sea, d =?

Thus,

  • The distance travelled by the sound wave = 2d

As we know,

  • Velocity = \frac{distance}{time}

After putting the given values in the equation, we get:

  • 1500 = \frac{2d}{3}
  • d = \frac{1500\time 3}{2} = 2250m.

Hence, the depth of the sea, d = 2250m.

Given: Time taken - t = 3s

           Velocity of sound - v = 1500m/s

To Find: the depth of the sea - ?

Solution: Depth of the sea = distance covered by the sound waves

                Total distance = d + d = 2d, The sound covers the same distance 2 times with the same velocity ∴ t/2 to cover d and t/2 to cover d.

Depth of sea = d = v × t/2

                         d = 1500 × 3/2

                          d = 750 × 3

Depth of sea - d = 2250m
