if the total number of heads of hens and goats in a field is 85 and sum of their leg is 280 then find the number of goats and hens in the field

As per the fact ,

hens and goats each have one head and two and four legs respectively.

let number of hen = x

let number of goats = y

✯ According to Question ~

$x + y = 85....(1) \\ \\ 2x + 4y = 280....(2)$

$multiplying \: equation \: (1) \: by \: 2 \\\\ 2x + 2y = 170...(3) \\ \\ solving \: equation \: (2) \: and \: (3) \\ \\ 2y = 110 \\ \\y = \frac{110}{2} = 55$

✯ putting the value of y in equation (1)

$x + y = 85 \\ x + 55 = 85 \\ x = 85 - 55 \\ x = 30$

✯ therefore ,

number of hens = 30

number of goats = 55
