Given:

Rt=20 ohms

To Find:

Resistance of resistor (X)=?

Current (I)=?

Solution :

Case 1 :

Solve for Series Circuit and assume circuit has two resistors

Rt=R1+R2

20=R1+R2

In this case suppose R1=R2=10 ohms then Rt=20 ohms

Case 2 :

Solve for parallel circuit and assume circuit has two resistors

In this case if R1=R2=40 ohms then Rt=20 ohms

\frac{1}{Rt}=\frac{1}{R1} +\frac{1}{R2}

\frac{1}{Rt}=\frac{1}{40} +\frac{1}{40}

\frac{1}{Rt}=0.025+0.025

\frac{1}{Rt}=0.05

Rt=\frac{1}{0.05}

Rt=20 ohms

According to ohms law V=IRt

Total current in Circuit is

I=\frac{V}{R}

I=\frac{V}{20}

Actually value of current (I) depends upon voltage (V)
