If the value of acceleration due to gravity at a place decreases by 3% then find the change in the height of the mercury in a barometer at that place

P  = ρgh

So,

h  = p/ρg ---- (1)

p/ρ  remains constant in barometer

therefore h is inversely proportional to g.

change in height

△h = P △g / ρ g^2 -----(2)

divide (2) by (1)

△h / h = P△g /ρg^2 * ρg/P

△h/h = △g/g

△g/g = 3%

therefore △h/h = 3%
