let the original velocity be v

new v = 3v

original k.e. = 1/2 mv²

= 1/2 mv²

=0.5 mv²

new k.e. = 1/2 x m x (3v)²

= 9/2 m∨²

= 4.5 m∨²

new k.e. / original k.e. = 4.5 mv² / 0.5 mv²

= 9 times
