If the water in which the tadpoles are growing does not contain sufficient iodine the tadpoles cannot become adults.why?

iodine is a necessary component for thyroid,if thyroid is not sufficient ,thyroid hormone levels will decrease in tadpoles and they cannot metamorphosis into adult frogs.
