- Rahat system basically involves the working of two circular wheels, one near the well and one nearby on the land surface.
- The wheel attached to the well, also called the Persian Wheel, is fitted with small containers to draw water that is attached to a long chain that reaches down the deep well.
- The land surface wheel is rotated with the help of animal labor, mostly from oxen.
- By rotating the wheel, the oxen drive the axil of the circular wheel which in turn rotates the main wheel. This axil movement triggers the gears of the circle that in turn rotates the Persian Wheel to draw from deep down the well.
