Given ,

The weight of a body on the earth's surface is 60N

We know that , the weight of an object on moon is nearly 1/6 th that on the surface of earth

Thus ,

Weight on the moon = (1/6) × 60

Weight on the moon = 10 kg

Hence , the weight of the object on the moon is 10 kg

The body which weighs 60N on earth will weigh 10N on the moon.

Given:

The weight of the body on the earth's surface is 60N.

To Find:

The weight on the moon's surface.

Solution:

Weight is a quantity representing the force exerted on a particle or object by an acceleration field, particularly the gravitational field of the Earth at the surface.

If the weight of a body on the earth's surface is 60N that means the force exerted by the body on the earth's surface is 60N.

Weight will change on the moon's surface but the mass of the body will remain the same.

From newton's second law,

F=ma

⇒60= m 10 [taking a of earth as10m/s²]

⇒m=6 kg

Acceleration due to gravity on the moon is 83% less than the acceleration due to gravity on earth(1.622m/s²)

F= ma

⇒F= 6 × 1.622= 9.732 N ≈ 10N

Hence, the weight of the body on the moon's surface will be 10N.
